Turtle Hatchlings!!!!

We had an amazing night tonight!!!

It all began with a stop off at Childers for ice cream and a look at the Palace Hotel memorial. We then moved on to Bundaberg and had a wander around the zoo and walked down to the water.

Please excuse my sunshirt, I have become more sun concious in this hot weather!

After Bundaberg, we headed to Bargara and went for a walk along the beach. And played on the cool play equipment!

We had some fish and chips by the beach and then...

We drove to Mon Repos and got there at 6:30pm where we waited at the turtle conservation centre for the rangers to come and get us when they found some turtles hatching. We watched some turtle documentaries outside in the ampitheatre. While we were waiting I fell alseep on the ground, which was lovely and warm from the hot day. We also found a huge spider in the toilets.

At 10:30pm we hurried out with the ranger to see a clutch of hatchlings emerge from the nest and then make their way down to the water.

Unfortunately we weren't able to take many photos, but it was the mos amazing thing ever!!! The baby turtles were so incredibly adorable!!! The ranger let us touch one and they were so gorgeous, their little flippers were so strong and it curled around my finger. Oh they were beautiful!!!

After watching the hatchlings emerge and then make their way down to the water with the help of a few volunteers including Chris, we went back to the nest to see how succesful the clutch was. Only 6 eggs were infertile out 96!

On our way back to the centre, the ranger stopped us all of a sudden to find that another lot of hatchlings had emerged and were making their way to the water right in front of us! There were hundreds!!! After watching them safely make it to the water, escaping a ghost crab, we walked back to the centre. We waited their until 12am just in case a turtle came in to lay eggs because they had already seen one even though it was late in the year to nest. Anyway we didn't see that but had an amazing night!!! It's a must see!!!
