The great South West - Margaret River Region

Well we have been hitting the tar pretty hard lately in our efforts to get back home. As soon as we were back in the caravan, after staying at Bec and Tristram's, we realised we still wanted to go home. But nevertheless, we are enjoying ourselves on the way. The South West has been magnificent so far, we are enjoying the beautiful surrounds and the yummy food!

So we start at Bunbury where we had a walk around and a play at the beach.

Then we drove the scenic route to Bussleton, where we stayed the night.
The Scenic route
The next day was really windy, so I missed out on the underwater observatory. We will just have to come back and do it again! Instead we indulged at the cheese factory!!! We sure have stocked up on delicous cheedar!

Then we visited the Ngigli Caves, they were phenomenal! We walked around the caves for an hour or so in awe of what was below the ground we walk on. You would never know that these caves even existed from above ground!

After the caves, we drove to Margaret River where we were in food heaven!!! We firstly visited the Gabrielle Chocolate factory and had a chocolate ice cream and hot chocloate. Chris thouroughly enjoyed this!

Then we went to the Cheeky Monkey Brewery and Cidery where we had a cider or two. We also picked up some truffle oil and garlic olive oil! Yummy!

Next stop was the Margaret River Vennison company. We tasted a number of vennison, kangaroo and emu products. We were very impressed and came out with some Vennison Pate and Vennison Salami. They will go nicely with the cheese we bought earlier in the day!

Yummy Vennison :)
After a quick drive around Margaret River township, we proceeded to Big Valley Camp Ground which is situated on a working sheep station. On our way we had to move some ducks off the road...

Then in the morning we took Megatron to play with the lambs!

They were the same size as Mega, so I think he thought they must be puppies too!

Training with distractions
After fun with the lambs, we drove to the Margaret River Berry Farm. Boy was that a mistake! They have the BEST jams, chutneys, sauces, liquers, ports, wine etc etc etc!!! So we had to try everything and came out with some real goodies. Mango and macadamia jam, Boysenberry and orange jam, Fig and ginger jam, Chargrilled capsicum relish, Raspberry port and Apple and vanilla port!!! Oh they have some delicous stuff!!! So we stayed for morning tea and had scones with their yummy jam and cream.

After we rolled out of their with full bellies and full hands, we drove to the Gloucester Tree in Pemberton. It was used as a fire watch tower and has a lookout 61metres up in the top of a Karri tree. They ridiculous thing is they had to climb these pegs to get up there. So as tourists you can do the same thing at your own risk. There are no saftey features at all!

Chris decided it wasn't such a great idea and after climbing quite a decent hieght, came back down. As for me, well I just kept doing one step at a time and then telling myself to stop, but I kept going. I did not however go all the way to the top. I didn't think it was such a good idea in Ugg boots!

I'll just go up a little bit for the camera...

This isn't so bad...

Close to the top, but that was enough for the day :)

The drive to find a camp for the night was eerie going through the forests. But we parked in a rest area for the night where it rained so hard 1. I thought it was hail and 2. I hid under the covers!
