Cooking Day

Today was rainy and gross so we stayed home and cooked for most of the day and Chris fixed our broken door latch. He did a good job on limited tools, and got his thumb with the hammer which meant we had a little day tour of Yarraman while it calmed down and stopped throbbing.

We went to the Yarraman wier and had a good walk around. We also visited the state forest next door to the caravan park.

Today we left Kumbia and headed back to Kingaroy for a few supplies. From Kingaroy we drove to Yarraman and settled in to Yarraman Caravan Park. It was pretty cold 19*C so we both had nice long hot showers and pretty much snuggled up in bed and watched tv for the rest of the afternoon!

More Gaff tape, the door lock broke completly off this time and the door decided to open on the highway. We will have to fix that tommorow.

The propert next door has 5 horses on it that they rescued from Northern Territory. This guy was the dominant one and made sure he was the only one that got the carrot.

I made sure he didn't get his way though! The owner says that he hasn't got used to the fact that he is neutered so he is over compensating!

This guy (The bearded dragon) was on the road in the caravan park, trying to get warm. So we relocated him to a safer place under one of the lady's caravans. He was very cute.

And I truely surprised Chris by asking for a hold!

Wow!!! A nice cool temperature complemented with a nice cool fridge!

At about 7pm we decided to stop watching TV and make some cheese and chives savoury scrolls in the dreampot (thermal cooker). Please excuse the mess, we couldn't be bothered doing much at all today!

Bunya Mountains

Chris and I took a trip out to Bunya Mountains today where we saw the famous Bunya Pines. They are dangerous to stand under at this time of year because they drop pine cones twice the size of your head! When we were walking through the mountains the sound they make when they fall is a massive thud because they a falling from so high. In some places the ground actually moved! So some parts of our walk were at a fast pace!

We did the scenic circuit backwards by accident, so we saw this sign at the end of our walk. I had no idea it would be a 4km walk.

There were lots of Kangaroos, Birds, Lizards and we also saw a beautiful carpet python.

We wouldn't have stood under this Bunya pine if we had of heard a pine cone dropping before this pic was taken!!!

And I wouldn't have posed in this tree if I saw the following photo first!

These are lovely big leaves of a giant stinging tree, not bum wiping material (lucky we didn't find that out the hard way!)

Once out of the national park, the scenery changed dramtically back to a more arid dry countryside. Now we are back at the van and it is pouring. Hopefully it's not a flood zone!

Kingaroy to Kumbia

We left the dam today to travel to Bunya Mountains. The only problem was that on the way, we read that it wasn't advisable for caravans to go up the mountains...hmmm. So we stopped at Kingaroy and looked at their museum. A lot of which was made up of farming equipment that was designed and made by the farmers in the area to make their life easier when it came to producing peanuts. There were a lot of quirky things. They are basically a town of peanuts and wineries and some other trees that i had no idea what they were. I should google it actually.

So we settled for the night in Kumbia, across the road from the police station which I guess an officer lives in with their family. They have a horse and parrots. I'm not sure why that amuses me but it does. It feels like a country show on tv.

And of course it wouldn't be right if we didn't break something :) So I bodged this one with plain old sticky tape!

We have finally started travelling again and have headed inland from Hervey Bay. We drove to Goomeri where I enjoyed a slice of Pumpkin pie and Chris enjoyed my ice cream :) Again, I forgot to take a photo! Anyway we had a look around and then drove to Murgon and had another look around and then we ended up at Bjelke Petersen Dam.

When we arrived as per usual we had a few broken items! One being the door lock. After Chris replaced the panel in the door and meticulously squared it, of course the door handle broke!!! So after him telling me it wouldn't work, i tried my hand at bodging it up.

We had a quick dip in the pool to cool down because it was 35*+ just way too hot! But not as humid. After a swim Chris and I prepard a warm beef salad for dinner and then tried our luck at fishing in the dam. We were unlucky :)

But we met some lovely people across the way from us and were invited to join them at their campfire. So we had a lovely night laughing about the joys of caravanning! Even with Shane and Jody owning a gigantic brand new fifth wheeler that is the size of a one bedroom unit, they still have problems too! That make us feel better! :)
