Lake Argyle - Bungle Bungles - Arglye Diamond Mine

Today we had a 2 hour early morning flight to see the sights of Kununurra.

The beginning was a little scary for me. I must say once we were up in the air I had thoughts of how we were going to get down. But it was a very smooth landing thankfully, thanks to our pilot Bec!

Eeek

We first flew over Lake Argyle which is a huge man made lake that is 55km long! They actually had to go around in boats to collect the stranded animals off the islands after they flooded it.

Then we flew over a couple of Cattle Stations and ranges. One of them being Texas Downs station which is massive!

Now I know why they Heli Muster!

The Waves

Expanse!

Then we saw the Bungle Bungle ranges which is full of fragile sandstone, I guess humps, and gorges.

We flew over the Argyle Diamond Mine, which is quite a big operation. Apparently the employees get 5 star accomadation, food and facilities in return for some pretty long shifts.

Fire Bombing is done in the dry season to do a cool burn of the scrub and generally it doesn't touch the trees so that just before the wet season lightening doesn't cause huge outbreaks of fires.

Ready for landing

Closer...

Closer...

And then after a very awesome 2 hours it was time for landing. Which wasn't so bad after all :)

Then due to tending to a puppy through the night and a 4:15AM start, we had a well deserved nap!

Tickle time with Bat Wings (ears) after a nap!

The new addition to our family...Megatron!

Well we got to pick up our little Megatron today, He is so cute!!!! We had to quickly learn how to puppy proof everything! We haven't had the first night yet, but he has been so cute today. He loves Chris and follows him everywhere.

He lives up to his name food eating wise!!! He gobbles everything down so fast! I gave him a chicken neck as a treat and after two little nibbles, he swallowed it whole!!! I really hope it doesn't cause a problem on the way out.

He seems to be coming to us when we call him which is a really good sign after a few sessions and treats. Then he gets worn out and sleeps :) Well let's see how our first night goes!

Bounding away!

Playtime with his brothers and sisters

Gypsy (mum) and Megatron the gutz!

A patient mother!

Our first day home with Megatron

He does eat a lot!

I don't think this was the right bowl for him!

Sleepy time!

Time for a bath before he enters the caravan!

All nice and clean now

Chris' new best friend

Sleepy time...again

And again

Now I get a cuddle while Chris is cooking dinner

Blogging away

I think we are on to a good thing, with all this reading on puppy training. We put some of it in to practise and hooray he peed on the training pad insted of the floor tonight!!! Yay!

Catch of the Day!

Well we drove from Katherine to Victoria river where we did some more fishing. We also came across something very interesting. I saw what I though was a dead Barramundi on the side of the river and called Chris over. It had no head or tail because it had been mauled or something. As I looked further in the water, I found the skull of a Freshwater Crocodile! So we fished it out and got out of there pretty quickly just in case whatever had him as a snack wasn't still hanging around for dinner!

Fishing at Katherine

Chris and I had a couple of days of fishing in Katherine while we were waiting on doctor appt's for my wrist. In the end it looks like I have damaged a tendon or ligament in my wrist. Not sure why it's taking so long to heal, but I am greatful that the nerves arn't damaged which is what they thought in the beginning! I didn't really fish, I just sat by the river and read my book which was really nice.

I found a friend :)

A mullet that Chris caught in the cast net for live bait... poor little guy!

off he goes

A lovers blanket :)
